On this report, we talk about toxic algae in Lake Erie and how a harmful algal bloom contaminated the city of Toledo, Ohio’s drinking water system, preventing residents from drinking, bathing, cleaning dishes with, and brushing their teeth with their tap water. The Toledo Water Crisis went on for 3 days in August of 2014 and forced Toledo into spending hundreds of millions of dollars to upgrade their water treatment facilities. There is currently no sign of improvement of algal blooms in the Great Lakes, and in some ways they’re getting worse.
